A surreal Garbage Pail Kids-style parody card capturing the absurdity of a renewed U.S. interest in seizing Greenland, with Europe rallying shoulder-to-shoulder to defend Arctic sovereignty.
European leaders from France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, the United Kingdom and Denmark issued a joint statement rejecting renewed U.S. interest in seizing control of Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, reaffirming that the island “belongs to its people” and its future must be decided by Denmark and Greenland alone. The renewed comments from U.S. President Donald Trump - revived following recent military action in Venezuela - sparked diplomatic tensions, with European allies stressing sovereignty, territorial integrity and collective Arctic security with NATO partners. Trump’s administration argues U.S. strategic and defense interests justify its interest in Greenland, but European leaders maintained firm opposition to any annexation attempt.
