Crisis! New York style vs the real thing
GreeenIsm piece by Guest:
Paul Driessen (8/15/10)
Our obsession with pesticide “risks” has very different consequences for America and Africa - “Don’t let the bedbugs bite” is no longer a fashionable good-night wish for Big Apple kids, even in the city’s high-rent districts and posh hotels. Growing infestations of the ravenous bloodsuckers have New Yorkers annoyed, anguished, angry about officialdom’s inadequate responses, and “itching” for answers.
Tax and Spend Spells the End
Socialism piece by Guest:
Armand C. Hale (8/15/10)
At the end of this calendar year, the Bush tax cuts will expire. There are those who call these tax cuts the single largest cause of America’s structural deficit. These tax cuts are unaffordable. I disagree with the basic premise as these tax cuts are not the largest cause of our deficit…but the liberal free-spending congress currently residing in Washington. And it starts at the top.
Making November a Political Victory
Election 2010 piece by Bruce Walker
(8/15/10)
Ann Coulter, quite rightly, has expressed concern(1) about Republicans declaring victory in the 2010 elections. Most folks understand that capturing the Senate will require some luck. But consider this: RealClearPolitics is balanced and brainy. It shows(2) that in the battle for the House of Representatives, 202 seats lean Democrat, 201 lean Republican, and 32 are toss ups. That means Republican chances for even gaining the House – something everyone is touting is almost certain – is, in fact, a coin toss.

The Tax Left-Wing Professors Act
EdukShun piece by Warner Todd Huston
(8/14/10)
James Lileks of the Minneapolis Star Tribune recently had a brilliant idea(1). Let’s tax tenured professors at a higher rate than everyone else. And how could they complain? After all, these left-wing, communist sympathizers are ‘always’ saying everyone should pay more taxes. How could they complain about being called to “pay their fair share”?

Federalism strikes back
The Republic piece by Offsite
(8/14/10)
We’re seeing a re-emergence of constitutional principles and federalism across the country. It’s a major issue in the health care reform debate, as Tea Party activists and others have refocused attention on the long-dormant principle concerning the individual mandates to purchase insurance and excessive spending by the federal government.
The Cloward-Piven strategy
Progressivism piece by Offsite
(8/14/10)
There is plenty blame to go around for the financial crash. Yet, there is a distinct odor of the shadowy Cloward-Piven strategy as the taproot of abusive practices that triggered the crisis. The strategy’s goal is to bring about the fall of capitalism by overloading and undermining government bureaucracy.

The Old Liberal Three Step
Progressivism piece by J.J. Jackson
(8/14/10)
Anyone who has spent any time at all arguing with a more liberal minded person on issues relating to the powers of the federal government knows the old Liberal Three Step. The dance has been around for the better part of the last century and is the tried and true way for people who have no respect for individual liberty, limited government and our Constitution to justify any and every duty they want government to undertake. Once again we are watching this dance being performed over the issue of Obamacare.

Republicrats piece by Offsite
(8/13/10)
When MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow asked Rand Paul in an interview back in May if he believed that a private business should have the right to refuse to serve African-Americans, he correctly answered, “Yes.“ But he went on to say, “I’m not in favor of discrimination of any form.“
Sisters of Political Futbol
National Security piece by Guest:
Michael R. Shannon (8/13/10)
(Note to Democrat press secretaries: even the mainstream media will ask embarrassing questions regarding immigration after a drunk illegal runs over a nun.) - Virginia’s Sen. Mark Warner (D–Waffle) successfully dodged commenting on the death of Sister Denise Mosier for almost a week. But last Friday’s “news” conference to take credit for an agreement to improve record keeping at Arlington National Cemetery was hijacked by an undocumented question when he was asked to share senatorial thoughts on the eminently preventable death. Warner observed, “It’s a tragedy.“
Harry Reid Inadvertently Reveals Democratic Party’s True Colors
Demercrats piece by Guest:
Mark Andrew Dwyer (8/13/10)
Harry Reid blew a gaffe. He said: “I don’t know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican, OK?“ (see [1]). He apparently believed that no Hispanic at his right mind could vote for a Republican candidate. And he was careless enough to hint this belief in public.

‘Did the Stimulus Stimulate?‘
Economics piece by Offsite
(8/11/10)
The Obama team gives macroeconomics a bad name - A recent paper by Alan Blinder and Mark Zandi claims that if not for the response of the federal government, the unemployment rate would be 15.7 percent, far higher than the current 9.5 percent. The press quickly reported that this vindicated the Obama stimulus plan. But the fact is that most of the positive effects cited in their paper came not from the stimulus but from stabilizing actions of the Federal Reserve, the FDIC, and TARP.
Helping Put Their Best Foot Forward
Society piece by Thomas D. Segel
(8/11/10)
Harlingen, Texas, August 11, 2010: Many of us can remember a saying that was often used by parents or grandparents when they were encouraging us to excel at some particular worthy effort. They told us we should go out and “put our best foot forward”. It was their way of telling us to put everything we had into the project or event.
I’m sure Lincoln would not have wanted ‘content neutral’
The Republic piece by Offsite
(8/11/10)
Since when is patriotism considered a “demonstration”? Worse yet, since when is displaying your patriotism IN AMERICA considered a biased activity? It is if your group decides to sing the national anthem on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. At least that is the explanation given by U.S. Park Police as to why they ordered a group of high school students to stop singing the national anthem. In their zeal to keep the area “content neutral,“ the park officials lost track of the fact that in America, patriotism used to be expected.
