There They Go Again
By Thomas D. Segel (06/27/04)
There are those who wish Ronald Reagan were still here to repeat his famous mantra on a daily basis. Without question it is a time of “There they go again!”
At least six times in the past 24 hours I have heard Democrat party loyalists and media talking heads say we need to get the countries of the United Nations behind our efforts in Iraq. They fail to mention we have already received two resolutions from that body…the last one unanimously.
John Kerry, in his stump speeches makes daily comments to the effect, “The United States needs to stop going it alone.” He also indicates that if he were president, he would be able to unite Europe and the rest of the world behind us.
Perhaps it would be a good idea to once again list those countries, which are providing military assistance in Iraq. These are the countries the United States is “going it alone” with: Great Britain, Albania, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, The Czech Republic, Denmark, The Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, South Korea, Thailand, Ukraine.
Still, according the Democrat Party and everything they put on television, radio or in print, because the harsh policies of the Bush Administration, this country is in Iraq all by itself. Well, “There they go again!”
Former Vice President Al Gore, once again, stood behind a microphone and started another rant. This time he charged that from the very beginning, President Bush decided to lie to the American people about Iraq and its ties with Al Quaeda. Gore had a convoluted way of reaching that determination. He said that the President choose his words so he never really said there was any connection between the former Iraqi leadership and the events of 9/11. Gore’s contention was that Bush choose his words so specifically and practiced his delivery so carefully that he never really said there was a Iraq-9/11 connection. He wove his story so skillfully that he still indicated a connection really existed….and that means he lied to the American people.
We should always expect this type of rhetoric from Al Gore, just as we should expect it from the major television networks and newspapers that report his words. In every case, we should answer their creative commentary with “There they go again!”
The 9/11 Commission has now made a preliminary statement concerning Iraq and the events of that dark day. Almost without exception, the liberal press distorted the Commission’s words and offered up glaring headlines decrying any connection between Iraqi officials and Al Quaeda. Even after 9/11 Commission members went on television to correct the media misstatements about its findings, there were no corrections offered by our print moguls to the public.
Nobody has ever accused this country’s political hacks of being the brightest candles in the lamp. However, they should eventually learn that the American public is sharp enough to discern the truth, even if the elite media does not serve it up to us.
We may know the truth, but they refuse to recognize that as a fact. We still have those political word slingers who never stop throwing it at us from that big pile on the north side of the barn. You can almost hear the whispering voice of Ronald Reagan saying….”There they go again!”
