Sharpton Hypocrite re Critique of Romney's Faith
By J. Grant Swank Jr. (05/09/07)
Self-ordained so-called Pentecostal preacher Al Sharpton said that God believers would defeat Mormon Mitt Romney.
Evangelicals consider Mormonism a cult. Why? Because Mormonism does not accept the full divinity of Christ though using the name "Jesus Christ" in the name of their organization, that is, "The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints."
Evangelicals’ basic tenet is that Christ is fully God, the Second Person of the Trinity.
Now one would have to question Sharpton as to why he does not accept Mormonism within Christendom. It may be in line with the evangelical definition or it may be some other postulate.
I, an evangelical, have no problem personally with Romney being a Mormon US President. His theology is doctrinally cultic. His moral base however basically is New Testament ethic. If one can believe that he has honestly made the transition from pro-choice to pro-life and pro-homosexual lifestyle to anti-homosexual lifestyle, then Romney is okay.
What does concern me is Sharpton.
He parades as a black Pentecostal biblical preacher when all the while he is a fraud. I wish the evangelical, biblical black church as a block would broadcast that.
How is he fraudulent?
First, Sharpton endorses killing womb babies. I don’t believe there is one truly committed Pentecostal biblical Christian worldwide who supports killing womb babies.
Second, Sharpton endorses homosexual lifestyles as legitimate, indeed God-blessed. I don’t believe there is one truly committed Pentecostal biblical Christian worldwide who supports homosexual lifestyles as biblically acceptable.
Surely all genuine evangelical believers consider abortion and homosexual practice as abhorrent per the biblical data. Theological liberals accept both abortion and active homosexuality. Biblical believers of every Christian denomination reject both.
Then it is Sharpton who stands in judgment of condemnation before the God of the Bible. It is Sharpton who needs to clean up his own soul house before waging war against Romney as a Mormon.
Per AP’s Glen Johnson: "The Rev. Al Sharpton, who recently urged that radio host Don Imus be fired for making a racially insensitive remark, said in a debate that ‘those of us who believe in God’ will defeat Republican Mitt Romney for the White House.
"’As for the one Mormon running for office, those who really believe in God will defeat him anyways, so don't worry about that; that's a temporary situation,’ Sharpton said Monday during a debate at the New York Public Library's Beaux-Arts headquarters."
There you have it: the pot calling the kettle black, no pun intended regarding African-American black Al Sharpton.
